There are two naturally occurring species, the Indian peafowl Pavo cristatus from India. These birds are often called Blue peafowl. The Green peafowl Pavo muticus is the second species. These birds live in Burma, Thailand, Indo China, Malaya and Java.

Peacock is a common name for a male bird, females are called peahens. Only males have amazingly beautiful tail coverts. Their beautiful plumage comes in a great variety of colors. Markings of blue color resembling eyes serve as an ornament. A bird breeder is an expert on birds and chicks.
